Frankfurter Forschungszentrum Globaler Islam
Frankfurt Research Center on Global Islam

Islamism is becoming increasingly influential in Muslim-dominated states and in the Muslim diaspora communities of Europe. This development contains considerable social and political explosives, which not least provides breeding ground for Islamic terrorism. At the same time, Muslim intellectuals and scholars around the world are developing concepts of an Islam that is compatible with democracy, human rights, women's and children's rights, and humanistic ideals. The controversy surrounding the normative interpretative sovereignty of these two camps is no longer being debated theoretically, but is escalating violently from the Islamist side and leading to brutal attacks and even the bloodiest attacks worldwide. The culture war in the Islamic world has been in full swing for decades and has now reached Europe.

The Frankfurt Research Center for Global Islam (FFGI) sees itself as a think tank that scientifically analyzes these dynamics and identifies their relevance for Germany. It combines regional and national with transnational and global perspectives and is able to establish connections and advise state and civil society actors.
